Overview
Having the correct documentation is the single most important step in ensuring a smooth Umrah visa application. Incomplete or incorrect documents are the leading cause of visa delays and rejections for UAE residents applying for Umrah visas.
Whether you're a first-time pilgrim or a returning traveler, this comprehensive guide covers every document you'll need to prepare. We've organized everything into a clear checklist so you can gather your paperwork with confidence and avoid last-minute stress.
Essential Documents Checklist
Below is the complete list of documents required for an Umrah visa application from Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, or anywhere in the UAE:
1. Valid Passport
Your passport must have at least 6 months validity from the date of travel. Ensure it has at least two blank pages for visa stamps. Both the bio-data page and any previous Saudi visa pages should be clearly scanned or photocopied.
2. Emirates ID
A clear copy of both sides of your valid Emirates ID is required. The Emirates ID must not be expired at the time of application. For new residents, a valid entry permit or change-of-status stamp may be accepted.
3. Passport-Size Photographs
Provide 2 recent passport-size photographs with a white background. Photos must be taken within the last 3 months. Specifications: 4cm × 6cm, face clearly visible, no glasses, and hijab is acceptable for women (face must be fully visible).
4. UAE Residence Visa Copy
A clear copy of your UAE residence visa page in the passport. The visa must be valid for at least 3 months from the date of travel. Tourist visa holders may need additional documentation.
5. Vaccination Certificate
Saudi Arabia requires the Meningitis ACWY vaccine for all Umrah pilgrims. The vaccination must be taken at least 10 days before travel. Additional vaccines may be recommended depending on the season — see the vaccination section below for full details.
6. Mahram Proof (for Women Under 45)
Women under 45 years of age must travel with a Mahram (male relative). Documents proving the relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificate, or family book) must be submitted. Women 45 and above may travel in organized groups without a Mahram.
7. NOC Letter (if applicable)
Some employers or sponsors require a No Objection Certificate. While not always mandatory for Umrah, having an NOC can expedite the visa process. See our detailed NOC guide below.
Biometric Requirements
Saudi Arabia requires biometric enrollment for Umrah visa applicants. Here's what you need to know:
- First-time visitors: Must visit a designated Saudi Visa Application Center (Tasheer) for fingerprint and photograph capture.
- Returning visitors: If you've provided biometrics within the last 5 years, you may be exempt from a new enrollment.
- Appointment: Book your biometric appointment in advance to avoid delays. Walk-ins may be accepted but are subject to availability.
- What to bring: Original passport, Emirates ID, and your visa application reference number.
- Processing time: Biometric enrollment typically takes 15–30 minutes. Results are processed digitally and linked to your application.
NOC Letter Guide
A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer or sponsor may be required or recommended. Here's how to obtain one:
- Request from your employer — Ask your HR department or sponsor for an official NOC letter on company letterhead.
- Include key details — The letter should mention your full name, passport number, designation, and the purpose of travel (Umrah).
- Get it attested — Some applications may require the NOC to be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), though this is rare for Umrah.
- Translation — If the NOC is in a language other than Arabic or English, get it officially translated.
Tip: Even if not mandatory, carrying an NOC is always a good practice as it demonstrates that your sponsor is aware of and approves your travel plans.
Vaccination Requirements
Saudi Arabia has specific vaccination requirements for Umrah pilgrims to ensure public health safety:
- Meningitis ACWY (Mandatory): Must be administered at least 10 days before arrival in Saudi Arabia. The vaccine is valid for 3 years (polysaccharide) or 5 years (conjugate).
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Check the latest Saudi entry requirements as policies may change. As of 2025, vaccination certificates may still be verified at entry.
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Recommended, especially for elderly pilgrims and those with chronic health conditions.
- Polio Vaccine: Required for travelers from polio-endemic countries. A booster dose may be needed.
Vaccinations are available at government health centers, private clinics, and select pharmacies across the UAE. Keep your vaccination card safe — you'll need it at immigration.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Don't let avoidable errors delay your Umrah plans. Here are the most common mistakes applicants make:
- Expired passport: Always check that your passport has at least 6 months validity before applying.
- Blurry document scans: Ensure all copies and scans are clear, well-lit, and all text is readable.
- Incorrect photo specifications: Using old photos or photos with incorrect backgrounds leads to rejection.
- Missing vaccination certificate: Don't forget the Meningitis ACWY vaccine — it's non-negotiable.
- Late biometric enrollment: Schedule your biometric appointment early in the process to avoid bottlenecks.
- Name mismatches: Ensure your name is spelled exactly the same on all documents (passport, Emirates ID, visa application).
- Last-minute applications: Apply at least 2–3 weeks before your intended travel date to allow time for processing.
